Dulu dianggap sebagai tontonan “khusus wibu”, sekarang anime udah resmi jadi bagian dari pop culture dunia. Bukan cuma soal animasi dan karakter berambut biru, ini soal gimana anime berhasil merobohkan batas, masuk ke layar semua orang, dari YouTube sampai Netflix, dari timeline X (Twitter) sampai panggung fashion week.

Dulu Cult, Sekarang Mainstream

Zaman dulu, penggemar anime harus rela cari kaset bajakan atau nunggu tayangan tengah malam. Tapi sekarang? Bisa nonton episode terbaru Jujutsu Kaisen atau My Hero Academia barengan sama Jepang, lengkap dengan subtitle (atau dubbing!) dalam puluhan bahasa.

Platform kayak Crunchyroll dan Netflix jadi pemain kunci di transformasi ini. Fakta kerennya: di tahun 2025, anime ditonton lebih dari 1 miliar kali di Netflix, dan setengah lebih dari pengguna global mereka (alias 300 juta orang lebih) nonton anime secara aktif.

Bukan Cuma Otaku, Seleb Dunia Juga Ikut

Kalau dulu ngaku suka anime bisa dianggap “aneh”, sekarang beda cerita. Megan Thee Stallion cosplay karakter anime buat pemotretan majalah. Michael B. Jordan bawa vibe Naruto dan Dragon Ball Z ke film Creed III. Bahkan Keanu Reeves ngaku banyak terinspirasi anime buat John Wick. Fanbase anime makin luas, makin diverse.

Dunia Game dan Anime Makin Lengket

Kolaborasi antara anime dan game makin intens. Banyak game yang diangkat jadi anime, dan sukses. Contohnya, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners yang ngebantu “naikin” hype game-nya. Atau sebaliknya, game kayak Devil May Cry dan Castlevania yang punya versi anime buat nambah depth cerita.

Belum lagi kabar soal proyek anime untuk game Death Stranding dari Hideo Kojima yang makin bikin dunia dua media ini makin nggak terpisahkan.

Anime x Fashion = Budaya Baru

Di luar layar, pengaruh anime juga menjalar ke dunia fashion. Pasti pernah liat jaket UNIQLO UT bertema anime, atau kolaborasi mahal antara Loewe x Studio Ghibli, Gucci x Doraemon, sampai sneakers edisi khusus ASICS x Naruto. CASETiFY juga nggak mau kalah, sering banget rilis casing HP bertema anime yang langsung sold out.
