Sneakers.co.id – Latest release shoe Kanye West “Israfil” adidas YEEZY BOOST 350 V2 along with the upcoming “Asriel” color line is drawing negative attention from the Muslim community. For those who are not aware, colorways utilize the names of trumpet-blowing Islamic angels (Israfil) and death (Asriel).
Many took to Twitter, and has even started a petition to boycott the line sneakers this. The petition has garnered more than 1.000 signature with many commenting that the colorway names are disrespectful to Islam.
Although this is not the first time religion has been used as inspiration for coloring sneakers, Netizens have proven that religious figures and religious terminology should be avoided in shoe designs.
This can be seen from how netizens, especially Muslims are seen to reject. Muslims think Kanye and Adidas have insulted Islam. It can be understood because for the mulit, Israfil and Azriel (Izrail) is the name of an angel in the teachings of Islam. They also massively wrote the hashtag #ShameOnKanyeWest #ShameOnYeezy.
Several other netizens gave comments showing disappointment on the Adidas Twitter account after posting photos and the latest names of the shoes.
“No thanks, not trying to see anything related to Kanye,” wrote the Twitter account @chottsfired
“A very disrespectful act. You want to sell products on inciting hatred. Shame on Adidas,” wrote the Twitter account @drjaffarnasir.
Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 This V2 edition features a Primeknit Bluish Gray and Sandy Yellow upper with Pale Yellow stripes on the sides. A semi-transparent gray midsole over a Gum rubber outsole completes the design.
Reported from the site nme,with, The petition against the name of the Yeezy shoe has started to be campaigned on the change.org page, to request brand Adidas shoes change the name of the shoes.
“It has come to the attention of the Global Muslim community that Adidas has allowed the production of shoes named after the archangel in Islam,” bunyi petisi tersebut.
"Until further notice, We ask all Muslims to boycott Adidas products, discontinue all sales of Adidas products by third party Muslim-owned retail stores, until Adidas stops production of this commodity.”
There is no official response from adidas or Kanye at this time. But, in spite of all that, actually the view of shoe it's quite okay to have.
Even so, controversy seems to have become part of Kanye's story. This step of Kanye who often takes risks actually makes him often produce out of the box works.
