"It was a golden age for hip-hop. It was a big time for me, many of the very important albums I brought with me still came out between ’92 and ’96. And aesthetically, those years have a strong relationship, colorful and connected with black empowerment. VII also has references to Africa, Said Guillaume, a native of Suriname who grew up an hour from Amsterdam in basketball-crazed Hertogenbosch.
Vincent, creative director Patta, attracted to Jordan VII's elegant form and minimalistic symbols (it's the first in Jordan's product line without the Nike brand). Vincent continued, “This is my all time favourite.”
Sneakers only play part of the story of this collaboration, because both Guillaume and Vincent immediately recognized the power of the complete package surrounding VII. "Clothing VII is out of this world. The product we work on comes straight from the short Jordan clip from Barcelona that became so famous. It features a segment where Michael walks past a large board himself where he wears shoes, and that picture has forever etched in my memory, Said Guillaume.
Revive the original clothing pattern, Patta can also subtly tie up its branding even though it incorporates word marks “TEAM PATTA”. “We see ourselves as a strong team where everyone has their place, so the concept of ‘TEAM PATTA’ always important to our history,” kata Vincent.
The Patta x Jordan collection will be released 18 May in Amsterdam and London in Patta, as well as on patta.nl. And it will be officially launched 15 June on the SNKRS and SNKEAKRS apps and at select retailers.
