Sneakers.co.id – Who doesn't know this famous SWOOSH symbol? Well this is their story.
History of Nike, at the beginning the stand was known as Blue Ribbon Sports, track athlete Philip Knight and his coach, Bill Bowerman of the University of Oregon founded the company in January 1964.
The company was formerly a distributor for the Japanese shoe Onitsuka Tiger.
The company's revenue grew significantly, until in the year 1966, BRS opens its first retail store on Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica, California. The collaboration between BRS and Onitsuka Tiger began to drift apart in 1971. Then BRS prepared to start its own shoe company. Football shoes named “Nike”, is the first product of BRS, released in summer 1971.
Officially February 1972, BRS introduces the Nike brand. Nike comes from the Greek goddess of victory. In the next stage, BRS, Inc then officially changed its name to Nike, Inc, in the year 1978. Ilie Nastase, is a professional athlete who started his contract with BRS/Nike.
The athlete's brand ambassador strategy seems to be the main marketing strategy that influences Nike's growth history. This is because most athletes choose the best shoes for them to wear. So Nike started sponsoring athletes. Next Nike shoes sponsored John McEnroe, a tennis player who was getting attention at the time because he would constantly swear in front of the referee while playing.
Tahun1979, Nike became running shoes most popular in the states. On its journey now Nike not only sells shoes, they started selling Nike sportswear and equipment for most sports. However, Nike's popularity is not satisfying enough. Reebok finally surpasses Nike shoe sales, it's quite annoying Nike. Nike finally made special shoes for every sport and activity.
Nike's biggest innovation is Michael Jordan, this contract was signed directly by the University of North Carolina. This is what makes Nike superior in competing with Reebok. Michael Jordan is famous, but not Phil Knight's top choice. Nike is trying to get Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, 2 from the athlete who was very popular at the time.
Nike has reached 50% market share in the United States athletic shoe market, and the company went public in December 1980. Nike's broad market share success is largely due to 'word-of-foot' advertising’ (quote a Nike print ad from the late 1970s), than television commercials. Nike's first national television commercial starts in October 1982 during the broadcast of the New York Marathon. This ad was created by advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy, which was formed a few months earlier in April 1982.
Nike and Wieden+Kennedy have created many memorable print and television commercials and continue to be Nike's main agency today. It was Wieden who created the famous slogan “Just Do It” for Nike ad campaign year 1988, chosen by Advertising Age as one of the top 5 advertising slogans in the century 20, and that campaign has been immortalized in the Smithsonian Institution.
The Swoosh
The history of Nike records, Design “Swoosh” created in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson, graphic design student at Portland State University. His meeting with Phil Knight occurred during an accounting class and he started doing some freelance work for Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS). Logo Nike “Swoosh” representing the wings on the statue of the famous Greek goddess of victory, Nike, which is a source of inspiration for many great and brave fighters.
The history of Nike continues for years 1972 when BRS decided to make its own athletic shoes, BRS felt the need to create a new brand for this line of business. Knight then approached Davidson for design ideas. In June 1972, Davidson presents a selection of designs for Knight and other BRS executives, and they finally chose the global brand now known as Swoosh. Davidson filed a bill of $ 35 for the job.
Running shoes the first to wear the Swoosh logo was introduced at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, in June 1972. To this day Nike still continues to use this brand.
