Common Terms Used Sneakerhead

General Release (GR)

General release, or GR, sneakers are produced in large volumes for the mass market. In some cases, they may fall in a variety of colorways, at a time. Considering how easy it is to get GR sneakers in retail, generally there is no sensation behind it.

AND

Original or Original Release. This refers to the first release of the shoe (as opposed to re-release). If we take Air Jordan 1 for example, The OG is the one that was released last year 1985.

Retro

Reseller

A blessing for almost all sneakerheads. Restocking is a magical occurrence when a retailer gets a number of new shoes sold out. This gives sneakerheads a second chance to get the shoe they're looking for.

Collab

Short for collaboration, the term collab refers to sneakers that come out of a partnership between two brands or brands and personalities. The term collabo is more commonly used in the European context.

The Terms in the Shoe Box

Nike

HS – Hyperstrike

HS labeled shoes are the most exclusive of them all. They come in very limited quantities, with the majority going to friends and family (FNF) artists and celebrities.
Example: “Playstation” Nike Air Force 1, which are promotional shoes given to Sony employees in 2006.

QS – Quickstrike

Shoes that are classified as rare that are not exclusive like Hyperstrike's output. Traditionally, QS sneakers don't have a labeled release date, but now they have it. Usually available in Tier stores 0 who sells the most exclusive sneakers; an example is the Invincible United States, Dutch Patta, Atmos Tokyo, and Singapore Surrender Shop.

SP – Special Project

HTM

HTM is the first letter of Hiroshi Fujiwara's first name, Tinker Hatfield dan Matt Parker
The HTM shoes were designed by a creative trio consisting of Hiroshi Fujiwara from Fragment Design, legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, and Nike CEO and designer Matt Parker. The three have been working together since 2002 to create and experiment with the latest technology and unique designs.

SB – Skateboarding

These shoes are specially made for skateboarders and usually have a thicker tongue.

LS – Lifestyle / Lifestyle

Shoes meant for casual wear and not for looks.
Example: Air Jordan 4 LS

NRG – Energy

Not much is said to define exactly what NRG stands for, but if the release nature of NRG shoes like the Air Yeezy and Galaxy Foamposite is anything to go by, NRG can well point out a very limited number of shoes.

PRM – Premium

Example: LEBRON XII LOW PRM

NSW – Nike Sportswear

New products derived from reinvented classics are considered NSW.
Example: Nike Tiempo, before soccer shoes, turned into lifestyle shoes.

New Balance

New Balance shoes usually have a code name that can be found on the inside of the tongue. This code can be broken into three parts for easy parsing.

For example, The M1500BWG can be read as the M-1500-BWG. The first letter refers to gender (“M” for men and “F” for women). The second letter will identify the type of shoe. Therefore, “MR” refers to Men's Running Shoes.

Custom or collaborative sneakers will have a “C” in front (mis. “CM” and “CW”). Each New Balance model has its own style number, and this is shown in the second part of the code. Common numbers include 574, 996 and 1300.

The last three letters usually refer to the colorway of the sneakers. For example, "BWG" ​​means blue, White, and gray on shoes. Exclusive releases may even have special letters for this part of the new balance code. Watch any series Complete New Balance code here.

Yeezy

Created and developed by Kanye West, Yeezy line is Adidas' most sought after collaboration. Their partnership resulted in regular releases which often sold out globally and. Outside of Adidas, Kanye West's Yeezy brand creates high fashion clothing, utility boots, and many more.

 

Vans

Anaheim Factory

The Vans sneakers released under the Anaheim Factory collection are made to emulate the quality and production methods used by the brand's first factory located in Anaheim, California, which opened in 1966.

DX

If DX is written on the shoebox label, it demonstrates the use of higher quality materials and sock lining on the classic Vans silhouette.

LX

If LX is written on the shoebox label, it demonstrates the use of premium materials such as leather and suede in the classic Vans silhouette.

MTE

MTE, or Mountain Edition, is the outdoor division of Vans that takes classic silhouettes and adapts them to all weather conditions.

Syndicate

From year 2005 until 2015, The Syndicate division within Vans was tasked with developing unique collaborations with big names in the world of figure skating and streetwear. Designers are given creative freedom but this means the Vans Syndicate sneakers come with a hefty price tag.

Vault

The most premium line that Vans sells. The Vault consists of classic silhouettes reimagined through the lens of modern art, culture, and street clothes. These sneakers are often the brand's boldest designs

Terms Used by Sneakerheads during Sneaker Transactions

DS / BNDS – Deadstock / New Deadstock

There's an ongoing debate among sneakerheads about what deadstock really means. Some people consider deadstock to be a reference for shoes that are not manufactured and sold in retailers anymore. However, most think the term deadstock means shoes in new condition. And when they say new, they are earnest. Shoes that have been tried on once are not considered DS anymore.

NWT – New With Tag

An alternative to DS. Expect the sneakers to come with accompanying tags.

VNDS – Deadstock is very close

This includes shoes that have been worn once or twice and look as good as new.

BIN – Buy Now (Price)

With the growing sneaker community, The administrator has established rules that facilitate the buying and selling of sneakers, and BIN is one of them.
